I became enthralled with history as an undergraduate at UC Davis.
It felt like every single lecture I’d learn a story of the world that I never heard before.
These stories helped me get a clearer understanding of why the world was the way it was, and it helped me have greater clarity around the trajectory of society.
It’s true that history repeats itself.
There’s really nothing new under the sun, and we as humans seems to be destined to relive patterns of behavior, and growth/death cycles as our forebears did….just with modern issues and experiences.
I remember the first time I learned about the ‘Father of Modern Gynecology’ named James Marion Sims.
I was neck deep on my journey of healing my cervix, and I wanted to do some research on ‘modern gynecology’ to see if I could better understand why I never felt comfortable with the way my body was approached in the gynos office and never felt good about the treatment options offered to me.
Sims is touted as a medical hero in the allopathic community for his innovation and discovery of how to ‘treat the female pelvis’.
Yet if you scratch below the surface, you’d learn that Sims actually quite despised women in a real way, and utilized unwilling and enslaved African women to do his medical experiments on without anesthesia, that led to his ‘revolutionary discoveries’.
The most notable of the women who he used as guinea pigs were named Betsy and Anarcha. (The image at the top of this email is of Anarcha on the experimenting table, facing Sims.)
When I learned about James Marion Sims and these women, it felt like a veil had been lifted from my eyes.
Suddenly I could ‘see’ how this one story of the foundation of the way modern gynecology approaches women’s bodies set the standard for the rest of the allopathic gynecology to emerge from.
I was shook, to say the least, and my own body felt a deeply-seeded recognition of the foundation of harm the ‘Father of Modern Gynecology’ initiated on women. From just this one story, my passion for holistic cervical and pelvic healing really took root.
And then I decided to dive even deeper into the history….
I began to question:
What and who came after Betsy and Anarcha?
How did James Marion Simm REALLY become the ‘Father’ of this field?
How did the ‘innovations’ that so many of us women have been privy to experiencing continue to come forth?
How did these foundational practices influence what is known as Obstetrics/Gynecology today?
Deep and deeper I went into the rabbit-hole of the history of this field of medicine, and it all became exquisitely clear-
– The current medical providers in this field truly have no idea what they’re perpetuating when they attempt to coerce, bully, or scare women into these treatments and procedures…because if they did know the foundation and history of what they’re pushing, they’d most likely stand against it.
-That we, as women, have been lied to through omission about the historical context of this ‘modern medicine’ and that if we were taught the real underpinnings of what we’re told as ‘the only option’, we may very well choose to reclaim our inner-volition and find another way.
-What Cervical Wellness stands for goes against the snow-ball affect of everything modern gynecology is founded upon and represents (which is unfortunate because I truly believe that most people who practice this form of medicine choose this career path because they do want to help women. It’s not them- its the system they find themselves working within).
On Tuesday Sept 13th, I’m going to reveal this history to you.
I’m giving a preemptive trigger warning because this history is NOT pleasant, and may in fact be infuriating or even a little traumatizing for those who have experiences gynecological medical trauma.
But we must know.
We must face the beast in the eyes in order to KNOW it and SEE it for what it truly is.
Please know that me sharing this history is in now way attempting to shame or belittle ANYONE who works within this field because I bet my bottom dollar they do not know this information- and that’s not their fault, just like it’s not ours.
This webinar is free and the recording will be available/sent out to you via email on Sept 14th.
Head here to sign up for and watch the replay.
It’s time for the truth to be revealed, and I’m SO READY to shine the light on what’s been hidden from us when it comes to our pelvic wellbeing.
I hope you’ll join me, and spread the word if you think other women in your life would like to know this history as well.
